Telford & Wrekin awarded over £600,000 towards veteran support
New funding to help veterans and their families across the borough
Telford & Wrekin Council is celebrating a boost for local veterans after securing £670,709 from the Ministry of Defence’s Office for Veterans’ Affairs.
The funding, part of the Government’s £50 million Valour programme, will help strengthen support for veterans, serving personnel, and their families across the Borough.
The funding will help expand services at the Christopher Turley Armed Forces Community Hub in Dawley and make it a fully Valour recognised centre.
The Hub, run by Telford & Wrekin Council, Great Dawley Town Council and Telford Mind, will be open more often, offer longer hours and provide easier access to advice on housing, health, welfare, employment and skills.
Councillor Ben Carter, Mayor of Great Dawley Town Council says,
“This is brilliant news and I am very pleased for all involved with the Christopher Turley Armed Forces Hub. This will be brilliant for the area and allow the hub to enhance its support to the armed forces community within Telford.”
It will also bring together local partners to create lasting support for veterans and their families across the Borough.
