A man who stole an electric bike from outside a shop in Stafford has been ordered to pay the owner £3,500 in compensation.

Steven Dawkins, 35, admitted theft after stealing the bike from outside a shop on Weston Road on 27 May.

He was sentenced at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 3 June.

Dawkins was also given a seven-month-and-five-day prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and a three-year criminal behaviour order.

His CBO will be in place until 3 June 2029.

Sergeant Claire Goodridge, from the Stafford local policing team, said: “Theft can have a significant impact on victims.

“It can deprive individuals of their primary means of transport, cause financial hardship and leave them feeling distressed and unsafe.

“This type of offence is prevalent across many communities and offenders often reoffend, which is why we pursue measures such as CBOs to address persistent offending and protect the public."
