Two would-be hitmen jailed after botching Smethwick shooting plan
Adam Liaqat and Asad Khan were sentenced to nearly 30 years in prison
Two men have been jailed for nearly 30 years after botching their plan to carry out a shooting in Smethwick, revealing their intentions.
Adam Liaqat, 19, and Asad Khan, 22, were preparing a gun attack when their firearm accidentally discharged, injuring Khan in the leg.
At around 4.30am on 23rd November last year, the incident unfolded on St Paul’s Road, forcing Khan to seek medical help by taxi.
Following an investigation, the Major Crime Team linked the pair to a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander taken from Rowley Regis.
Phone records showed the two men had been planning a shooting before the mishap.
Khan’s home search revealed crack cocaine, leading to further charges against them.
Liaqat, from Middlemore Road, Sandwell, was arrested on 2nd December after being pursued while driving a Honda Accord under a provisional licence.
Accomplice Yakuba Sawaneh was also found guilty in connection with drugs offences following the pursuit.
The three men went on trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court in May.
Liaqat was sentenced to 15 years for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of Class A drugs, a separate drug supply conviction, and driving offences.
Khan, from Lones Road, West Bromwich, was sentenced to 13 years in September for firearms possession with intent to endanger life and drugs offences.
Sawaneh received a 42-month sentence in September for possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.
