Shropshire singer on fundraising mission so mum can marry terminally ill stepdad
Macy O'Neil wants to give her mum and stepdad the wedding they deserve
A teenage singer from Shropshire is on a fundraising mission to help her mum marry her terminally ill step dad in a dream ceremony.
Macy O'Neil, who's better known as Macy O, says the support her family have received so far has been "a light at a dark time".
Her stepdad, Antony "Shorty" Shorter, who has cancer recently found out his situation was terminal and doctors told him he was unlikely to live past Christmas.
The devastating situation meant her mum, Naomi, and Shorty had to bring forward their wedding date, but needed extra support to do so.
"They really, really, really want to get married, and so that's why I started the fundraiser for them, because they've done so much for other people that it just just makes sense for them to have something of their own," said Macy.
She explained the budget has been "stripped back", but they've already raised thousands of pounds and had kind offers for other help with the big day.
The couple plan to marry on Halloween to make it extra memorable.
Speaking about the impact of the quick success of the fundraiser, Macy said: "My mum, I think it's hit the most.
"She has been so shocked by the amount of people."
She continued: "It's just absolutely mind blowing. I've been reading the list of names as they've been coming through and some of these people I don't know, I don't recognise,.
"It's crazy how the support of strangers can make your dreams come true."
Macy said with the amount Shorty has given back to the community in Shropshire, it's fitting others are now helping him.
The pair co-own a record label, Moose Records, helping other aspiring artists kick start their careers.
"Shorty has always extended his hand out to invite people into the studio, invite people to learn from him, and so many people have benefited from what he's done", she said. "
"I think that's one reason why I think he deserves the support of this GoFundMe."
Macy added that everyone who's helped and donated is welcome to attend the celebrations!
