Shropshire Council Deploys Multihog Machines to Tackle Potholes
Shropshire Council is stepping up its efforts to improve road conditions this month, with two specialist Multihog road planer machines set to repair potholes and surface defects across the county throughout May 2026.
The machines, supplied by Multevo, are designed to plane off damaged sections of road quickly and efficiently.
By creating a clean, squared-off area, they allow repair crews to fill defects more effectively than traditional methods, which typically involve manual saw-cutting and breaking out sections of road.
This modern approach enables faster repairs, reduces disruption, and delivers more durable results.
Each Multihog is capable of treating up to 9,000 square metres of road surface per month. As well as speeding up repairs, the process helps reduce the likelihood of potholes re-forming in the short to medium term and minimises the need for full road closures.
Scheduled Works Across Shropshire
The two Multihog machines and their crews will be working on a range of roads throughout May:
Multihog 1
- Friday 1 May – Shrewsbury Road, south of Annscroft to junction with Great Lyth Farm (Section 1)
- Tuesday 5 May – Shrewsbury Road, from Great Lyth Farm junction to Chatford Lane (Section 2)

Working Hours and Travel Advice
All work will take place on weekdays between 9:30am and 4:00pm. While the use of Multihog machines reduces the need for extensive road closures, some temporary traffic management measures may still be in place. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys where works are scheduled.
