The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Alex Wagner, is leading a commemoration today to mark Remembrance Sunday.

The annual event beings the community together to remember those who fell in the two World Wars and in later conflicts, while also showing appreciation for those who continue to serve in the Armed Forces today.

The day’s proceedings will begin with a civic procession from Shrewsbury Castle at 10:30am, led by The Bligny Band and Bugles of the Shropshire Army Cadet Force.

The procession will include representatives from HM Forces, Veterans, local Councillors, former Mayors, Magistrates, and members of both service and civilian organisations.

The route will pass through Castle Gates, Castle Street, Pride Hill, Mardol Head, and St John’s Hill, before reaching the Quarry War Memorial.

Following the service, the Mayoral party will move to the saluting dais on St Chad’s Terrace for the march-past and salute, as military units and organisations parade from the Quarry main gates towards Quarry Place.

Mayor Alex Wagner said it's a proud moment to lead such a commemoration:

"Today is about reflecting on how lucky we are. We live in a gorgeous town in Shrewsbury and lots of people over many years in the forces and beyond have brought in all sorts of public service to allow that."

"It makes me feel very lucky to be part of the community that I'm part of."

The service will also be live-streamed on the Shrewsbury Town Council website for anyone unable to attend in person.
