A man has been banned from attending any football match for three years, after invading the pitch and then being found in possession of drugs at a Shrewsbury game.
Daniel Perkins, of Bishop Street in Shrewsbury, pleaded guilty to possession of class A drugs, and going onto the pitch at a Shrewsbury Town Football Club match in January 2025.
The 30 year-old was handed a three-year football banning order (FBO) at Telford Magistrates Court on Thursday (18 June).
The banning order means that, while it is in place, Perkins cannot attend any football match in the UK and will be unable to travel abroad when England are playing away.
Perkins is also banned from certain areas of Shrewsbury, including the town centre and areas near to the stadium, before and after all Shrewsbury Town FC home games.
The banning order is designed to act as a powerful deterrent to anyone who considers disrupting the safety and enjoyment of the game.
The force’s dedicated football officer for Shrewsbury Town FC, PC Chris Rayment, said: “As we work closely with the club in the planning for the new season, this is a timely reminder that unacceptable behaviour and criminality will not be tolerated at football matches.
“Football is enjoyed by many people from all ages and backgrounds, including young children. Being in possession of or using illegal substances or prohibited items can have a negative effect on people’s behaviour, impacting the safety and enjoyment of others.
“The safety of the match officials and the players on the pitch is also a priority. Pitch incursions can quickly escalate and have the potential to raise tensions between fans. Therefore, we welcome the magistrate’s decision to give Perkins an FBO.”
