A woman who threatened to stab a security guard as she was shoplifting in Brierley Hill has been jailed for two years and three months.

Sharee McCarthy, of Pheasant Street, Dudley, admitted robbery at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

The court heard how on 12 September last year, McCarthy was spotted by staff entering a supermarket she was notorious at.

She'd targeted the supermarket on Sandringham Way before.

Despite being asked to leave by a security guard, she decided to take items from the shelf and put them into her rucksack.

The guard asked her to put the items back when she said “You don’t know what I have on me, I’ll stab you”.

The security guard backed away and reported the incident to police.

PC Luke Johnson, of Dudley’s Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “McCarthy not only chose to commit shop theft but, in an attempt to get away with her crime threatened an innocent member of staff making him fear for his safety while he was simply doing his job.

“No one should ever have to go to work and fear for their lives when all they’re trying to do is their job."
