Eight men have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences following police raids at Sandwell's high street stores.

Officers from West Midlands Police and Sandwell Trading Standards have been executing warrants in the area in a bid to clampdown on high street crime.

They raided two shops in Wednesbury and Cradley Heath and found illicit vapes, cigarettes and pouches of illegal tobacco.

When visiting three shops in Smethwick and Oldbury, they found £25,000-worth of cannabis, £2,000-worth of illegal cigarettes and £5,000-worth of illicit vapes.

In another store in Wednesbury, 126 bottles of nitrous oxide and illicit cigarettes were seized.

A total of eight men have since been arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply.

They've all been bailed as investigations continue.

Chief Inspector Imran Mirza, of Sandwell Police, said: “We are disrupting offenders and protecting our communities as we take illicit products off the streets.

“Thanks to our partnership work with Sandwell Council, we are making arrests, seizing goods and closing down stores which continue to ignore the law and fuel organised crime.

“Information from our communities is vital to helping us keep you safe. If you notice any suspicious activity in your local stores, then please contact us.”
