Rowley Regis mates raise thousands for men's mental health charity in 1,000 mile Benidorm road trip
The group travelled for three days from the Black Country to Spain
A group of mates from Rowley Regis have raised thousands for men's mental health charity, Andy's Man Club, through a sponsored road trip driving from the Black Country to Benidorm.
The group got hold of a fleet of beat-up cars that were barley road worthy, gave them a fun makeover and much needed repairs, and hit the road for three days to make it to Spain.
Each car had a different theme - and almost all of them made it the full 1,200 miles.
"There was one car that didn't make it - the Toy Story themed Mazda," said Warren Hawkins, one of the group.
"One of the lads ended up pushing him most of the way just so it could get into fourth gear just to carry on on the motorways.
"But, we got them in the other cars with us and carried on with the journey and we managed to get every man there."
The group have so far raised over £5,500 for the charity, smashing their original target.
For many of them, it's a subject that hits close to home.
Mr Hawkins said: "There's a few of us that have encountered issues with mental health and there's a few of us who have lost friend due to mental health, so we wanted to really do something that spoke out to the local community about something that really hit home with all of us."
He said they team have been blown away by the support from the community with their challenge and they hope to have also highlighted a key message as well.
"It's okay to talk," Mr Hawkins said.
"There's so many people that just need to have that support and be able to open up, and we just think that getting that message out there, out in the community, it could potentially save somones life."
