A recovery truck driver has been jailed for life, with a minimum term of 20 years, for murdering his 19-year-old girlfriend during an argument in Oldbury
Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how Mohammed Azim (41) initially claimed Lily Whitehouse was involved in a hit-and-run.
But in reality, Azim used his vehicle as a weapon against the young mother on 5 November last year.
Passing sentence, Judge Mr Justice Murray said: “Your decision to kill Lily was spontaneous, but you would have been aware she had a five-week-old baby still in hospital.
“The baby has lost her mother forever at the very beginning of her life.
“Lily was very needy and dependent on you as you well knew.”
Detective Nigel Box, investigating, added: "Within 24 hours of Azim being in custody, we uncovered the CCTV that showed he was the driver of the vehicle.
"Lily was a vulnerable young lady, and Azim as an older man had taken some responsibility for looking after her.
"He didn't do that - he failed her miserably.
"This conviction goes some way to securing justice for Lily."
