Police force put out reminder to people across West Mercia ahead of Halloween to 'enjoy it safely'
West Mercia Police is asking those going out trick-or-treating to be considerate of those who do not want to be involved with the tradition and to stay safe
Those planning on heading out to trick or treat this weekend in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire are being urged by their police force to be respectful of others when out and about and to not disturb people who don't want to take part.
The message from West Mercia Police comes ahead of Halloween, which officially takes place this year on Saturday (31 October).
They've reminded people that while it can be loads of fun for families and children, others might also wish to not be involved and may feel 'uneasy' about unexpected callers.
It's asked everyone to "respect people's wishes when visiting homes" with that in mind, while making sure they stay safe.
Superintendent Edward Hancox said: “Halloween is an exciting occasion that many families look forward to and we want everyone to be able to enjoy it safely.
“We would ask anyone planning to go trick or treating to be respectful of those who may not wish to participate, a little consideration can help ensure Halloween remains a positive experience for everyone in our communities.
“On Halloween night, officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols across our three counties to provide reassurance and help keep people safe while they are out celebrating."
He added, if anyone did witness any anti-social behaviour or anything suspicious during the evening to report it to them so any "appropriate action" can be taken.
