Man jailed after firing gun near primary school in Sandwell
Omar Khan has been jailed for seven years and seven months
A man who fired a gun in broad daylight near a primary school in Sandwell has been jailed for over seven years.
Omar Khan, 26, of Farnham Road, Birmingham, has been jailed for seven years and seven months after admitting a number of offences at Birmingham Crown Court.
The court heard how on the afternoon of 18 July 2025, emergency services were called out to Rushmere Road in Tipton following reports a gun had been fired.
Parents and children were just leaving school for the day, and had to be called inside until the area was made safe.
When officers arrived, they found two casings and two rounds of live ammunition on the floor.
Khan was arrested on 18 August when officers saw him in the same car that was at the scene of the shooting.
When he was arrested, he was also found with a knife.
What did he plead guilty to?
He pleaded guilty to:
- possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
- possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate
- possession of a bladed article in a public place
- and driving a motor vehicle without a licence or insurance
"The outcome could have been so much worse"
PC Kyle Bowering, who investigated the case, said: “Thankfully no one was injured during this incident, but the outcome could have been so much worse.
“Khan decided to carry out his crime next to a primary school putting not only those involved at risk but also innocent children, their families and loved ones in danger when they were simply collecting their children at the end of a school day.
“Khan has now lost his freedom, and I hope his time behind bars will give him a chance to think of the devasting consequences that could have resulted because of his actions.”
