Shrewsbury Town Football Club has revealed the faces behind the American consortium behind it's potential takeover bid.

The group seeking to acquire Salop is being headed by Miami businessman, Scott Davidson.

Davidson is no stranger to the footballing world, also being the majority shareholder of Spartans Football Club in Edinburgh, who are in the Scottish League Two.

Joining him is former US International goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who will become a director, subject to IFR approval.

Friedel has enjoyed a successful 20-year career for club and country, making appearances for the US Men's National Team at three world cups and making Premier League appearances for Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

Since retiring, he's had spells as a manager in the MLS and has been working as a pundit.

The consortium was given regulatory approval by the IFR and EFL for the potential purchase on Monday

In a statement released today (September 11), Shrewsbury Town said: "Shrewsbury Town can confirm the American consortium seeking to acquire the football club is being led by businessman Scott Davidson.

"Scott will be joined by former US International and ex-Premier League goalkeeper Brad Friedel who will become a director, subject to IFR approval.

"A businessman from Miami, Scott brings significant experience across financial services, investment, corporate leadership and real estate, alongside more than four decades of involvement in education and football.

"He also has direct experience of football club ownership and governance in the UK after becoming a director and the majority shareholder of Spartans Football Club in Edinburgh in July 2021.

"A UEFA A Licence holder, Scott enjoyed instant success when he became owner of the Scottish side leading the club to promotion from the Lowland League into the SPFL for the first time ever.

"Spartans have also built one of the biggest and most impactful football foundations in the UK.

"Fellow Spartans’ board members Will Dotson and Craig Graham will also become directors, subject to their approval with the IFR.

"Roland Wycherley MBE remains fully committed to working with the consortium to complete the transaction as soon as possible."

The news of the approval came just a day after Salop fans published an open letter to the current chairmen voicing concerns for the state of the club, both on and off the pitch, which the club has yet to respond to.
