A meeting is to be held to discuss plans to build 155 homes in north Shropshire.

Boningale Developments has submitted an outline planning application for the development on a 7.55 hectare parcel of land off Perryfield Road in Prescott, south of Baschurch.

The proposal also includes a new GP surgery, including a dispensary, an EV car club scheme, landscaping, public open space, drainage, and other related infrastructure.

In a design and access statement, a spokesperson for Marrons said the proposals follow “a landscape-led approach that will foster a distinctive and biodiverse place for wildlife and people to enjoy”.

The site access road is set to be the “major arm”, with the existing cul-de-sac to the north becoming the “minor arm”. A ‘give way’ priority junction and centre-line road markings would be provided along Perryfield Road.

The spokesperson said extensive early engagement took place with Shropshire Council, local stakeholders and residents, including an in-person public consultation event in December.

The feedback ”has contributed to the incorporation of appropriate infrastructure improvements and the development of a proposal capable of delivering meaningful benefits for both existing and future communities,” the spokesperson said.

However, people living in the area believe many infrastructure and enviornmental issues have yet to be addressed by planning and highways authorities.

Therefore, an open meeting will take place at Baschurch Village Hall from 6pm to 8pm this Thursday (April 9) where the issues can be explored and discussed. There will be advice on how to identify matters such as traffic, sewage, wildlife, loss of prime agricultural land, and the future of the doctors’ surgery and dispensary.

So far, 23 comments have been lodged on Shropshire Council’s planning portal (26/01060/OUT), which are all in objection.

“As Baschurch has continually expanded, the use of this narrow, single track lane has increased exponentially,” said Julie Smith.

“We have lived in the hamlet for 27 years and seen traffic flow increase year on year.”

Daniel Peate added: “The GP is already incredibly difficult to secure an appointment and a new site will not magically create new doctors to deal with the issue.

“The local primary school is at capacity, and the secondary school is unable to take any more students either. Nurseries are full.

“Developers are quite happy to push ahead their plans for profiteering regardless of the practicalities for the people who live here already.”
