A man has been charged after a 78-year-old woman died following a dog attack in Wolverhampton.

Lila Hall died at the scene on Willis Pearson Avenue after being attacked by a dog on 15 April.

The dog was destroyed due to its continued aggression, officers said.

37-year-old Matthew Williams has now been charged with one count of being the owner/person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in the death of a person.

He appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court today (7 July) and has been remanded in custody until another hearing on 4 August.

Detective Inspector Michelle Cordell from West Midlands Police said: “We have spoken to a number of witnesses as part of our investigation but we are still keen to hear from others who may have information.

“I would encourage anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to us to get in touch.”
