A 40-year-old man from Birmingham has been sentenced to 10 years and two months in prison following convictions for rape and controlling behaviour.

Mark Williams subjected the woman to months of abuse before she courageously reported him to the police in September 2024.

The incidents took place at an address in Walsall , where Williams restricted her access to her finances and contact with her friends and family.

He even installed hidden cameras in her home.

Detectives gathered evidence from text messages and testimonials from family members after the woman reported the crimes.

Williams was arrested three days after her disclosure and subsequently charged.

During a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, he admitted the charges partway through the proceedings.

Detective Constable Daniel Folley of the Public Protection Unit praised the woman's bravery, stating her actions were key to securing the conviction.

He emphasised the gradual nature of coercive and controlling behaviours and encouraged witnesses to report such signs.
