A man has been arrested in Wellington on suspicion of drug dealing following a proactive stop by police.

Officers from the Proactive North Serious Organised Crime and drugs team were in the Telford area targeting suspected class A drug dealing activity when they observed a red VW Polo acting suspiciously on the High Street in Wellington.

The car drove off at speed and was followed to Maddocks Court in Wellington, where police detained the driver, a 22-year-old man. He was found to have discarded a quantity of class A drugs, as well as a burner-style mobile phone, nearby.

Following a search of an address, officers recovered approximately £13,000 in cash.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs. He is currently in custody assisting officers with investigations.

Detective Sergeant Steve Miller said: “Today, officers from the drugs team targeted suspected class A drug dealers operating in the Telford area.

“We located and arrested a man in possession of crack cocaine, heroin, and approximately £13,000 in cash at an address in the town.

“The harm caused by illegal drugs is well known, and we remain committed to disrupting and pursuing those involved in their supply to help keep Telford safe.”
