Man arrested following assault in Dawley

Armed officers were deployed after it became clear that there were weapons in the property

A 56-year-old man has been arrested following an assault in Dawley.

Police were called to a house on St Peters Close before 1am this morning (Sunday 15 March), where it became clear that there were weapons in the house.

Armed officers were deployed as a precaution.

One person was injured, and sustained injuries not thought to be serious.

A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place. He remains in custody.

The incident is said to be no wider threat to the local community.

Detective Inspector Richard Davies, said:

“I know that seeing armed police in a quiet, residential area may have looked and felt alarming, however I’d like to reassure you that the incident was contained and there was no wider threat to the local community.

“I’d like to thank local residents for their patience while we worked to bring this incident to a safe conclusion. There will be an increased police presence in the area today as we continue our enquiries, so I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to officers.”
