England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Sports Science by the University of Wolverhampton.

The university says the award recognises the Lionesses and Chelsea goalkeeper's achievements in football, as well as the inspiration she's provided to young people across the West Midlands and beyond.

Hannah said: “I feel incredibly fortunate to receive this honour from the University of Wolverhampton.

"As a proud Midlander I feel lucky to have spent my formative years at home in Birmingham and the surrounding counties.

"To see so many influential individuals both in and out of the public eye, and to call the region home really is special."

The award also recognises the 24-year-old's determination with strabismus, an eye condition that can affect depth perception and vision.

Hampton helped England retain the UEFA Women's Euro title, making crucial saves in the penalty shootout against Spain in the final.

The University of Wolverhampton said the honorary doctorate also celebrates her contribution to women's football.
