Fire closes Hoo Zoo

Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World says several stick insects, a snake and a hedgehog have died, as a result of a fire this morning.

These animals were privately owned by the zoo’s owners and have never been on display to the public.

The owners say they are devastated at the loss of these animals, but would like to thank Shropshire Fire and Rescue for the efforts in trying to extinguish the fire and for ensuring that the fire did not spread to further parts of the site.

Two of the owners were taken to hospital earlier today as a result of smoke inhalation, but they have since been discharged and remain well.

The zoo says that all of the animals remain safe and well and are being continually monitored, by a dedicated team of zoo keepers.

The zoo is closed to the public today.
