20-acre crop fire in Enville deemed accidental

A fire that affected around 20 acres of crops near Enville has been found to have started accidentally.

Firefighters were called to a field off Morfe Lane at around 6.20pm on Friday (31 July) after reports of a large crop fire that had also spread to a tractor.

Several fire engines attended and crews used hose reels to stop the fire spreading any further.

The fire was brought under control shortly after 7.10pm.

It's now been deemed accidental after an investigation.

With the current dry weather increasing the risk of fires, the service is reminding people to take extra care outdoors.

Watch Manager Justin Cooley, who attended the incident, said: “Please make sure that cigarettes are fully stubbed out and disposed of properly, waste is not left on the floor and barbeques are not used in green spaces.

“Failing to do any of these things drastically increases the chances of large-scale fires taking place in your community."
