A driver has been convicted of murder following the deliberate hit-and-run of Navpreet Singh in Wolverhampton.

Jashan Singh, aged 21, drove into 26-year-old Navpreet Singh, ran over him, and then reversed back over him before fleeing in a Mercedes on 22nd October last year.

Navpreet was attending a celebration of the last day of the Festival of Diwali at Phoenix Park when a disagreement broke out between two groups.

The violence led by Prabhjot Singh included assaulting Navpreet with an iron rod.

Despite being taken to hospital by friends, Navpreet, who was due to become a father for a second time, tragically died from his injuries.

Jashan Singh was arrested after an investigation revealed attempts to hide his whereabouts and identity.

During the trial, he initially denied involvement but was confronted with evidence linking him to the crime.

In addition to the murder conviction, Jashan Singh was found guilty of perverting the course of justice.

Two other individuals, Mohit Singh and Prabhjot Singh, were also convicted for their involvement in the incident.

All parties are due for sentencing on 30th November.

Detective Sergeant Rob Moir expressed condolences to Navpreet's family, stating that the convictions serve as justice for their loss.
