Dispersal order granted for area of Tamworth ahead of football match
It comes ahead of the clash between Tamworth and Scunthorpe
A special order has been granted to enable officers to disperse groups of people in parts of Tamworth town centre ahead of Tamworth Football Club’s game against Scunthorpe United on Saturday.
The dispersal order has been granted under section 35 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, aimed at preventing alarm, distress, crime and disorder. The order is in place from 10am to midnight on Saturday 9 August. It will be in operation within the following areas:
The A513 including Tamworth Railway Station
Bolebridge Street
B5000 to Kettlebrook Road
A5 Wilnecote Bypass
A51
Lichfield Street
Aldergate
Upper Gungate
The authority to carry out the dispersal order has been granted in response to community concerns and will give officers the power to disperse people to help minimise the potential of anti-social behaviour and prevent incidents arising.
Inspector Rachel Darby, of Tamworth local policing team (LPT) said: “We want everyone to enjoy the game safely without concerns about anti-social behaviour or other incidents.
“The order will protect local people from experiencing harassment, alarm and distress and also protect businesses from any potential criminal damage.
“This will mean we are able to balance the rights of those visiting the area with those who live and work in Tamworth and mean that we can take robust action if incidents occur.”
