A 'gun-obsessed' Telford man who was just 15 minutes away from completing a 3D-printed gun has been jailed for four and a half years.

David Boylett, 62, was arrested after National Crime Agency officers raided his home in Telford in 2021.

They found a partially completed firearm, firearms parts, tools and two 3D printers.

Forensic experts later found Boylett needed just another 15 minutes of work to make the weapon fully functional.

Investigators also found documents and videos about converting firearms, making ammunition and using 3D printers on his computer and memory card.

One folder was titled "naughty stuff" and contained videos showing how to make the same model of firearm found at his home.

His phone also contained a video of his 3D printer making one of the firearm components.

NCA firearms experts used the files found by investigators to make the remaining parts and successfully test-fired the weapon.

A powerful air rifle and ammunition were also found, and a shotgun part which had been stolen from a vehicle in Herefordshire in 2012.

Overpowered air rifle

Boylett was arrested in July 2021 and pleaded guilty in January 2026 to attempting to possess a component part of a prohibited firearm, possessing ammunition and an overpowered air rifle without a licence.

He's been jailed for four and a half years at Shrewsbury Crown Court today (Monday 10 August).

NCA Senior Investigating Officer Niall Conner said: "Boylett was in the process of creating deadly weapons that could have done untold harm to individuals in our communities.

"The depth of his research into 3D printed firearms demonstrates his obsession and intent with the tools in his possession."
