West Midlands Police say the city has seen significant reductions in serious youth violence involving knives, as well as drops in robberies, burglaries and vehicle crime.

For the year to March 2026, the number of violent incidents involving under-25s with a knife fell by more than 34%.

Compared with the previous 12 months, burglaries at homes were down by 31%, robberies fell by 27% and thefts from a person dropped by 17%.

Vehicle crime also reduced, with thefts of vehicles down by 14% and thefts from vehicles falling by 12%.

Police say they do not underestimate the impact crime has on victims and communities, and that neighbourhood teams, response officers, investigation teams and public protection units are carrying out targeted activity and specialist operations across the city.

Chief Superintendent Anthony Tagg, from Wolverhampton Police, said: “These figures are really encouraging and mean that there’s been significantly fewer victims of crime in Wolverhampton than the year before.

“But we are also acutely aware that for any victim of crime, any single crime is one too many and while we are making inroads, you can be assured that the commitment by every member of Wolverhampton Police to cut crime and catch those responsible goes on.

“Our teams work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice, to get just outcomes for victims and to make the communities across our city safe as they possibly can be.”

Police say business crime officers in Wolverhampton are also working with retailers and partners to identify and target repeat shop thieves, as well as address the root causes of retail crime.

Each area of the city has a Dedicated Neighbourhood Officer, while local policing teams continue to work alongside specialist departments including the Project Guardian Taskforce, which focuses on serious youth violence and knife crime.

Officers say work is continuing to reduce violence in open spaces and tackle gang activity through Operation Redfox.

The operation involves targeted patrols in hotspot areas including Whitmore Reans, Staveley, East Park, Heath Town and Bilston.

Police are encouraging communities to continue reporting information so officers can tackle the issues that matter most locally.

In an emergency, call 999. For non-emergencies, contact police via 101 or Live Chat on the West Midlands Police website.
