A drug and alcohol charity which works in Shropshire's found 68% of people they surveyed said they'll reconsider their drinking habits after dry January.

The research, by charity We Are With You, asked 2,000 adults how they were feeling about their drinking habits after going sober for a month.

Jan Burrows works for the charity in Shropshire - she says people don't always notice the impact alcohol has on them.

"I think sometimes people don't understand how drink can make can you feel and how you can get into the habit of coming home from work and having a glass of wine, and how much you do drink sometimes.

"And the impact this can have both physically and psychologically."

The research also found 45% of people were interested in reducing their alcohol consumption, but Jan says there are a number of barriers people face when wanting to cut down.

"Drink is a very social thing in people's lives which can be very difficult.

"People think 'if I'm going out, how am I not going to drink?'. What we say to people is - you can still go out, just maybe drink non-alcoholic drinks or limit what you drink."

She told us more about the support We Are With You offer to people in Shropshire.

"For anyone who feels they've got an issue with drink, we offer one-to-one support and you can get assessed straight away.

"We also offer peer support which can be really powerful - meeting other people who have the same issues as you means you can support each other," she says.

"If you feel things are getting out of hand, please reach out to us."
