The Guardian Taskforce has intensified its campaign against knife crime and youth violence with a notable series of arrests and weapon seizures in the West Midlands during February.

The taskforce operated across Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, as well as Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, and Wolverhampton.

A total of 70 arrests were made, alongside 60 weapons seized during 367 stop searches.

Guardian teams made 28 arrests in Birmingham and 17 between Coventry and Solihull.

The effort in the western side of the region resulted in 39 arrests for various offences.

Inspector Colin Gallier, from the Guardian Taskforce, emphasised the importance of their operations.

He stated, "Our teams are continuing to work incredibly hard to take knives and offensive weapons off the streets. Every knife seized is potentially a life saved."

Gallier also mentioned the collaboration with local policing teams and the Violence Reduction Partnership to divert young individuals from crime.

The Guardian Taskforce, known as Project Guardian, employs tactics such as plain-clothed operations, high visibility patrols, and positive engagement with the community to combat knife crime and youth violence.

Residents are encouraged to report anything suspicious by calling 101 or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
