A man from Wycombe has been jailed for blackmail offences in Maidenhead.

28 year old Michael Bampton, of Abercromby Avenue, pleaded guilty to one count of blackmail.

The crime took place on 16th February this year when Bampton approached a man in his late teens and threatened him with violence unless he handed over money.

Despite the victim’s refusal, Bampton pursued him, escalating the threats.

The victim later received multiple phone messages and calls with further demands.

Bampton was detained on 24th February and charged on the same day.

Detective Constable Lily Ellis, from the Priority Crime Team in East Berkshire, expressed gratitude to those involved in the investigation.

"I would like to thank the victim and witnesses of this crime, for their diligence in supporting this investigation, which allowed us to quickly arrest and charge the offender with blackmail.

"On the offence date in February of this year, the defendant targeted a vulnerable victim and made unwarranted demands.

"He showed no regard to the victim's welfare and was selfish in his actions, focusing on his own personal gain.

"I am pleased he has been held accountable and now has time to reflect on his behaviour."
