Woman killed in flat fire in Reading
An investigation is underway
An investigation is underway after a woman died during a flat fire in Reading.
Emergency services were called out at 9.20am on Sunday (16 February) to reports of a fire in a flat in Whitley Wood Road.
The Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the blaze and no other properties were affected but a resident in the flat, a woman aged in her 60s, died at the scene.
Detective Inspector Sally Russell, based at Reading police station, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a woman has sadly died. Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we have identified and notified her next of kin and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time for them.
“We are currently investigating the circumstances around this fire, but at this stage, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances, and a file will be prepared for the Berkshire coroner.
“I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while the investigation was under way.”
