Wokingham MP given new role
He was Lib Dem trades spokesperson
The MP for Wokingham has secured a new role as a Liberal Democrat party whip in Parliament.
Sir Ed Davey, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, has appointed Clive Jones, the MP for Wokingham, as a whip for his party, having previously been a trade spokesperson.
The job of a whip is to make sure fellow MPs are present for votes and follow the party line in Parliament.
Mr Jones said: “I am pleased to have been trade spokesperson for the party for the last year, and enjoyed working closely with our Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper.
“I’m looking forward to undertaking this new role as a whip and supporting colleagues in their roles as MPs.
“I’m happy with the change, I don’t mind at all looking after my colleagues, make sure they get out of parliament what they want. It’s supporting other members of the parliament to get the most out of their roles.
“Whips in the Lid Dems have a pastoral role as well, it is really about supporting colleagues.”
One of Mr Jones’ last acts as trade spokesperson was delivering a speech at the Liberal Democrat party conference in Bournemouth about the business climate in the country.
He said that small hospitality businesses such as those in Wokingham should be exempted from national insurance contributions (NIC) increases during his speech.
