West Berkshire Council puts another enforcement on gypsy traveller camp
Council says latest move strengthens case .
West Berkshire Council has put another enforcement notice on a gypsy traveller site, having just taken another one down.
It is in relation to the unauthorised development at the Reading Road site near Aldermaston.
The council withdrew the previous notice last week, issuing a public notice about it, saying an appeal had been lodged in respect of the site but the council has posted that the notice has been withdrawn and ‘therefore the appeal will not proceed any further’.
But it says it immediately issued a replacement notice – although no public notice was published.
The new notice relates solely to the boundary plan attached to the notice, with the red line enlarged to ensure there is no ambiguity and that it covers the whole all of the unauthorised development on the site.
The council says this strengthens a likely next round in the High Court, although no date for that has been set.
“There are no changes to the steps required by the notice,” said the council.
“The revised boundary plan strengthens the notice and provides greater certainty regarding the extent of the land affected by the enforcement action."
“As a new enforcement notice has now been served, the appeal relating to the withdrawn notice will cease."
“Those served with the replacement notice will have a right of appeal against the new notice through the usual planning process.”
The replacement notice does not affect the interim injunction granted by the High Court in December 2025, which remains in force.
The council is currently awaiting the outcome of recent court proceedings, which will determine whether the injunction can continue.
