Hampshire County Council will soon make it more expensive for people to get married as it hikes ceremony fees from April.

A report said the council has again increased the number of statutory and non-statutory ceremonies delivered in its approved venues and register office ceremony rooms.

The 2025/26 published fees were previously set at a five per cent increase above the 2024/25 fees to include the anticipated three per cent inflationary uplift.

However, to ensure the service remains commercially competitive, recovers all costs, and provides “consistently high quality”, the council has decided to increase fees by a further eight per cent across the range of ceremony options for 2025/26. This brings the total increase from 2024/25 to 2025/26 to 11 per cent, with the inflation uplift.

Hampshire Registration Service performs over 5,000 ceremonies every year, which include weddings, civil partnerships and couples renewing their vows.

The fees are reviewed annually to keep them in line with inflation, the economic condition, and the cost of providing the services.

Therefore, depending on the location and day, the new ceremony fee will range from £286 to £1,052.

Customers can select from various ceremony options designed to fit different budgets. One option is the ‘basic’ statutory ceremony, which costs £54 and is available at specific times of the week.

However, the council said they will no longer offer £54 ceremonies in Basingstoke and Fareham.

Hampshire Registration Service is a member of the South East Regional Board, which is made up of services across the region.

In that group, services were ranked from 1 (highest fees) to 18 (lowest fees). On average, Hampshire was ranked 10th.
