Two arrests after shoplifting and assault incident near Baskingstoke

Items stolen from One Stop store and man assaulted

Police in Oakley have arrested two individuals following a shoplifting and assault incident at a One Stop store.

The arrests followed reports that items had been stolen around 6pm on 19th April and a man in his 60s had been assaulted, having his phone knocked out of his hand.

Officers attended the scene and identified a woman matching the description nearby. A man was also seen fleeing the area but was quickly detained by officers.

In a subsequent search, officers found the woman in possession of a metal fork, detergent products, and bottles of alcohol with security tags still attached. The man was found carrying bottles of alcohol, chocolate bars, and several jars of coffee.

A 32-year-old woman from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop, common assault, assault by beating, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, and breaching a criminal behaviour order.

A 30-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop, assault by beating, and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.

Both remain in custody while investigations continue.
