Two arrested after chemicals seized during Farnborough house search
Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams were called and nearby homes were evacuated.
Two people have been arrested after suspected chemicals and liquids were seized during a warrant at a Farnborough address.
Officers searched a property on Robin Hood Close yesterday (29th January) and called in Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams and specialist search teams from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to assess the scene.
As a precaution, a small cordon was put in place, and 11 homes were evacuated during the investigation. Residents were temporarily housed at a rest centre in the Church of Good Shepherd on Sand Hill but returned to their properties last night.
A 45-year-old man and 43-year-old woman from Farnborough were arrested on suspicion of possessing an explosive substance for unlawful purpose. They remain in custody while police enquiries continue.
Police have confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terror-related.
Chief Inspector Alex Reading, District Commander for Hart and Rushmoor, said:
“We would like to thank the local community for their patience while we carried out the warrant on Robin Hood Close yesterday.
“It was a large multi-agency response, and I would like to thank our colleagues who helped with searches and helped to keep everyone safe.
“While our investigation continues, we believe there is no wider risk or threat to the public at this time. Our officers remain in the area today, so if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak with a uniformed officer.”
