Reading football club super fans The Amazons say they dream of playing a full gig at the Select Car Leasing stadium.

Speaking to us from LA where he's promoting the band's new album '21st Century Fiction' lead singer Matt Thomson said "That's the dream it's always been the dream for The Amazons to play the SCL stadium, it's part of the longterm plan the first step is having an owner who is receptive to putting on gigs there, and the next step is putting together a line up that could sell the tickets."

The band played a short live set in the fan zone outside the stadium on the last day of the season. An appearance that was boosted by the news that Rob Couhig had agreed terms to buy the club. Matt says it was a fantastic feeling: "It was a magical magical day we were sound-checking when some fans came over to us and told us the club had been sold we thought 'oh my god wow' talk about harnessing energy it felt like 'oh my goodness' the weight just came off our shoulders and we could just enjoy the day."

And Matt says he's recently spoken to the new owner "I actually got a call from Rob Couhig the new owner who just said thanks for all you've been doing with the club and we're excited for the future anything you need from me any ideas just hit me up, it was amazing so he's got a fan in me."

Rob Couhig has already publicly stated he wants the stadium to be used for other events in the future, so maybe it's a case of watch this space.

In the meantime Matt has been reflecting on the turmoil of the past few years which nearly saw the club fold "The effects of just pulling out a pillar of what Reading means over 150 years is kind of unthinkable and I think it's given Reading fans a deeper understanding of an already deep connection with the club."
