Reading FC's King Kelvin wins top award
Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan has been named Sky Bet League one Player of the Month for March
Reading FC's 22-year-old forward Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan has been named the Sky Bet Player of the month for March.
In winning the award he beat off competition from former Reading player Dom Ballard, Sonny Bradley, and another former Royal Oliver Norwood.
The EFL said "Not a natural central striker, Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan deputised for leading scorer Jack Marriott to stunning effect, with six goals in six games, including a headed winner at Burton and a first senior hat-trick at Luton, to lift Reading into the play-off places."
Kelvin said his favourite goal of the six had been his first against Wigan "simply because I had a conversation with Kamari (Doyle) before the game about not even looking just knowing where I'd be so when it played out exactly as we thought it would we were just like 'yeah' its clicked!"
Reading assistant manager and former striker James Beattie has been working with Kelvin to help him use his strength. He said: "You know he's what we call son-in-law material he's such a lovely young man but he needs to change when he goes on the pitch and I'm not talking about fouling people if he plays to his physicality and his size there's very few centre halves going to stop him."
And he said there was a moment when he thought it had all clicked last month, adding: "The thing that got me most excited about Kelvin's recent performances is the header at Luton where he absolutely cleared out the full back, and I've been telling to do that cos I used to do that, put the full back in the net and the ball!"
