Reading FC celebrate unique double
The club has won both manager and player of the month awards
Reading FC are celebrating after winning both the manager and player of the month awards for September.
Leam Richardson was named manager of the month for achieving ten points in five games.
The EFL judging team said: "After overseeing a summer of recruitment to add pace and depth to his attacking options, Richardson has placed the emphasis on front foot football with greater width. That equated to 10 points and 13 goals from five September games."
He'd been up against Tom Hounsell caretaker manager at Wycombe, Graham Alexander of Bradford City (now Preston) and Gary Bowyer of Burton Albion.
The Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel comprises former Barnsley manager Danny Wilson, Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
Player of the month
Jack Marriott was named player of the month after scoring five goals in September.
The EFL judging panel said: "Marriott’s uncanny ability to sense a scoring opportunity and move into the right place remains as razor-sharp as ever. His five goals in five games were scored at a rate of one every 72 minutes and included two braces and three headers."
His competition had been Jaze Kabia (Leyton Orient) - striker, Dan Kemp (Stevenage) – midfielder, and Jayden Stockley (AFC Wimbledon) – striker.
The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
