Police in Reading appeal for witnesses to sexual assault

Police are appealing for specific witnesses to come forward following a sexual assault in Reading.

At around 5.55pm on Tuesday 2 December, a man sexually assaulted a woman in her forties by touching her inappropriately over her clothing in the alleyway of Swan Place between Castle Street and Rose Walk.

The sexual assault was witnessed by two women who were walking down Castle Street. They were aged in their twenties or thirties and were dressed in smart clothing.

A 40-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of attempted sexual assault on a female and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He has been released on conditional bail until 25 February.

Investigating officer PC James Hammond, based at Reading police station, said: “I am appealing for the two members of the public who witnessed this incident to please come forward to see if they have any information which may assist our investigation.

“I am also appealing to anyone else who witnessed this incident or has information that may help us to please contact the force.
