Water Fest returns 'bigger and better' to showcase Reading's Kennet and Avon Canal
It's in it's 37th year - and will feature boat parades, music, and workshops focused on climate change and sustainability
The Water Fest is set to make its return to Reading, celebrating the Kennet and Avon Canal and surrounding historical areas.
Today's event will take place from 11 am to 5 pm, spanning Forbury Gardens, Reading Abbey Ruins, Chestnut Walk, and Riverside Walk.
Now in its 37th year, Water Fest provides visitors with a chance to experience the beauty of the canal and learn about its significance.
Aiming to align with the local council's carbon-neutral pledge by 2030, this year's Water Fest incorporates environmental and climate change themes into its programming and workshops.
Aside from workshops focused on sustainability, visitors can stroll through picturesque locations like Chestnut Walk and the well-known Abbey Ruins.
You may also spot colourful boats along the towpath, with friendly boaters offering insights into life on the canal.
Lucy Daniels manages the festival and says over 50 community groups and charities will be there running taster sessions and showcasing what they do.
She told Greatest Hits Radio this year's focus is sustainable fashion: "We've got a fashion show made up of outfits picked out of Reading's charity shops.
The two designers that have put together that piece are also running workshops showing visitors how they can upcycle clothes they have at home."
