A Reading restaurant has been fined £12,000 for repeated and serious food hygiene breaches at their two locations.

Hungry Budd Ltd, operators of the Biryani Boyzz restaurants in Reading, were prosecuted by Reading Borough Council.

It's after routine inspections carried out in 2025 by the Council's Food and Safety Officers identified numerous serious food safety failures.

These included unclean equipment, lack of safe temperature controls for food storage, insufficient training and supervision for food handlers, and poor food safety management.

Inspectors noted that the 63 Wokingham Road branch was without hot water for twenty days.

Both sites were marked by dirty and defective cooking equipment, unsanitary cleanliness, and evidence of poor waste management.

They also found dirty walls and doors, as well as trays containing spilt rodent bait.

Despite being given multiple opportunities to rectify these issues, Hungry Budd Ltd failed to consistently maintain improved hygiene standards.

The company was also required to pay a victim surcharge of £2,000 and prosecution costs amounting to £5,317.50.

Matthew Golledge, Public Protection Manager at Reading Borough Council, emphasised the importance of food hygiene, stating, “The safety of residents and visitors in Reading is our absolute priority… when an operator repeatedly fails to put things right despite advice and support from our officers, we will not hesitate to take enforcement action.”
