Over 91% receive their first choice
99% of parents in Reading who applied for a primary school place for their child starting school this September have received one of their top three preferred schools.
Out of the total applicants, 91% secured a place at their first preference.
This year, Reading Borough Council processed 1,846 applications for primary school admissions, which is an increase of 104 from the previous year.
Additionally, the transition from infant to junior school involved 115 pupils, all of whom received their first preference assignment.
In an official statement, Brian Grady, Director of Education at Reading Borough Council, expressed his satisfaction stating, "I am delighted we have been able to offer almost all Reading families a place at one of their top three preferred primary schools this year."
Grady extended his gratitude to the school staff and Admissions team for their efforts, "I’d like to extend a huge thank you to all primary school staff across Reading for their hard work and commitment, as well as to the Admissions team for making sure every child in the borough has been offered a place."
He wished all students starting primary school success and enjoyment, saying, "Good luck to every Reading child starting primary school this September. I hope you thoroughly enjoy your time in your first school."
Preference allocations for this year indicate that most students received their top choices, significantly supporting families in securing desired educational routes for their children.
