The Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police Jason Hogg has officially cut the ribbon and opened Reading's new Police station.
The new location at Atlantic house off of Imperial Way in the south of the town ends nearly fifty years at Castle Street in central Reading.
Speaking before opening the building Mr Hogg said:
"When Castle Street Police station opened in 1976 it was one of the largest in Europe, a landmark of its time, but as we know things move on.
"Rising costs, sustainability challenges, meant we needed a base that could take us into the future and that's why we decided to re-locate and today we stand in a building that's ready for the next chapter of policing in Reading."
The new Police station has taken many years to move to, originally planned for 2021 it has suffered countless setbacks but operations eventually transferred to the new building at the end of last month.
The Police's local commander for Berkshire weest Chief Superintendent Felicity Parker told us:
"It's so good to be in this building as you can see it's fit for purpose it's such a light building we are able to communicate really effectively with our teams and we can welcome the public into this great atrium where we can be a front door for our communities."
Police say the new location won't affect their ability to Police central Reading and say they are looking at finding a small base for 'neighbourhood Police' so they can be closer.
