A man from Reading has been jailed for historic child sex offences.

Jermaine Tyrer, aged 44, was sentenced to six years imprisonment at Reading Crown Court on Thursday (17/4).

After a two week trial, ending on 24 February, Tyrer was found guilty of one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 years and one count of inciting a girl under fourteen years of age to commit an act of gross indecency.

Tyrer was also acquitted of a separate count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 years.

The offending took place in Reading between 1998 and 2000.

Tyrer is currently serving a custodial sentence for separate offences after being recalled to prison for breaching licence conditions under an indefinite public protection sentence.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Lucie Singh said: “I would like to firstly commend the victim for her immense courage in coming forward and telling us what happened, especially considering the length of time that has passed since the offending.

“I’m pleased that Jermaine Tyrer has finally been held accountable for the appalling crimes committed against the victim. His sentencing ensures that he will not be released from prison, preventing any further harm to members of the community.

“Thames Valley Police will work with victims to prosecute the perpetrators of child sexual offences and protect the wider public, and I hope that this case demonstrates that time should be no barrier for those who have been sexually abused to come forward.
