14 primary schools in West Berkshire shut because of heatwave
A red heat health alert is in effect for the next two days
Fourteen West Berkshire-run primary schools will either close or finish at lunchtime due to the extreme hot weather this week.
A red heat health alert is in effect for the next two days (Wednesday and Thursday) across the South East of England.
Parents are asked to check details with schools and academy trusts directly, but the council says only two schools, so far, will be fully closed.
John Rankin Infant and Nursery School and Junior School – part of Maiden Erlegh Trust – will be closed on Wednesday, June 24, and Thursday, June 25, due to the high temperatures.
Beenham Primary says opening hours are restricted from today (Tuesday) to Thursday, June 25, and parents should contact the school for details
Brimpton Primary School is closing at 1pm each day. Bucklebury will also close at 1pm on Wednesday, June 24, and Thursday, June 25.
Chaddleworth St Andrew’s Church of England Primary School will remain open but parents can collect children from noon if they wish.
Englefield Church of England Primary School also remains open, but parents may collect their child from 1pm due to the high temperatures.
Falkland Primary School remains open, but parents are able to collect their child from 1.15pm.
The same applies for Long Lane Primary School.
Pangbourne Primary School will close at 12.30pm and Shefford Church of England Primary School remains open, but parents are able to collect their child from noon due to high temperatures.
Springfield Primary School remains open, and parents may collect their child after afternoon registration.
Streatley Church of England Voluntary Controlled School is open, and again parents may be able to collect children from 1pm. The same applies for Sulhamstead and Ufton Nervet Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School.
