Arrest after man 'touched boy inappropriately' in Finchampstead

Thames Valley Police officers have made an arrest in connection with a sexual offence in Finchampstead.

A 58-year-old man from Finchampstead was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault yesterday (3/6). He has been released on police bail until September, pending further enquiries.

The arrest relates to an incident on Sunday (1/6) at around 3.45pm at the sports pavilion by Finchampstead Baptist Church Centre on Gorse Ride North. It was reported that a man was seen approaching children aged between 10 and 11, and appeared to be taking photos of them. A boy was touched inappropriately over his clothing before chasing him a short distance.

Detective Sergeant Pauline Cameron said: “I would like to thank the community and everyone who has phoned in with information so far. We have now made an arrest and we are keeping an open mind as we continue to carry out our enquiries.

“We understand that people will have been concerned to hear of this report, however I ask that you please don’t speculate about the circumstances of this incident as we continue to progress our investigation.

“I am still appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that may assist us to please get in touch.
