Man sentenced to 17 weeks for theft and criminal damage in Thames Valley
Offender targeted businesses and community members
A 57-year-old man has been sentenced to 17 weeks in prison following an investigation by Thames Valley Police into multiple thefts and criminal damage offences.
Robert Black, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Reading Magistrates Court on 6th August.
He pleaded guilty to six counts of theft, along with charges of criminal damage, possession of a weapon, public order offences, and breaching court bail.
At the time of his offences, Black was already subject to a suspended sentence and continued his offending while on court bail.
He was arrested and charged on 5th August before appearing in court the following day.
PC Rhys White from the Newbury Neighbourhood Team commented on the case: “This is a positive result which demonstrates our determination to pursue prolific offenders who repeatedly target businesses and members of the public."
He highlighted the impact of Black's offences, stating that they harmed local businesses, retail staff, and community members, emphasizing a theft involving a child's bicycle.
Black also carried a weapon during his offending, prompting significant concern due to the potential fear, intimidation, and escalation it could cause.
The imposed sentence reflects the gravity of his actions, affirming that persistent offending, especially involving weapons and targeting of the public, will not be tolerated.
