Man sentenced for dangerous van driving in Basingstoke
Reckless driving led to arrest following police pursuit
A 30-year-old man has received a 20-month custodial sentence, suspended for two years, after driving a stolen Mercedes Sprinter van dangerously in Basingstoke.
Nathan Moroncini, from no fixed abode, failed to stop for officers on the M27 between the A31 and M3 on 20th May this year.
A police pursuit followed, culminating in Moroncini's arrest after the van collided with a building on Linseed Way, Basingstoke.
Fortunately, no injuries occurred during the incident.
H2 Charges and Court Appearance
Moroncini faced charges for driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving with an alcohol level above the limit, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
Additionally, he was charged with aggravated vehicle taking for stealing a Vauxhall Vivaro van from Knight Street in Basingstoke on 12th May.
The vehicle was later found and recovered.
Moroncini pleaded guilty to all offences at Winchester Crown Court on 11th August.

Alongside the suspended sentence, Moroncini was given a four-year driving ban and a 12-month drug rehabilitation order.
Police Staff Investigator Mike Field from Basingstoke CID criticised Moroncini's behaviour "Nathan Moroncini’s actions were reckless and dangerous, and this incident could have resulted in people being seriously injured or worse.
“His behaviour that day put the lives of other motorists and pedestrians at risk and this will not be tolerated in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
“Those who choose to drive stolen vehicles and use our roads in this manner should expect to be pursued, arrested and put before the courts.”
