Man jailed and given Criminal Behaviour Order for public order offences
Andrew Lovelock pleaded guilty to two counts of using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment
Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been sentenced and made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) following a public order incident in Newbury.
Andrew Lovelock, aged 45, of no fixed abode, appeared at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 4 August, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
He appeared at the same court two days later where he was sentenced to 23 weeks in prison. Following an application by Thames Valley Police, he was also made subject to a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order.
The order prohibits him from:
- Approaching any woman or girl unless they are known to him or such contact is unavoidable or inadvertent in the course of daily life
- Having an open receptacle of alcohol or consuming alcohol in any public place, save for when in a premises licensed for the consumption of alcohol on the premises
- Exposing his genitalia in public aside from when using a public bathroom
- Being under the influence of any illicit substance in any public place
This comes following an incident on Thursday 9 July in which Lovelock made inappropriate sexual comments towards two women in their twenties at Northcroft Park. Police attended and arrested Lovelock. He was charged the next day.
PC Sarah Bowness, who led the CBO application, said: “Lovelock’s behaviour has had a significant impact on those in the local community and has continued despite police intervention.
“I hope that this Criminal Behaviour Order sends a clear message that persistent anti-social and intimidating behaviour will not be tolerated.
“Securing this order will provide us with additional powers to address and prevent further offending, protect members of the public, and ensure that robust measures are in place to tackle his ongoing behaviour. We will continue to work with our partners to take positive action against those who cause harm and distress within our communities."
