A man has been jailed for three months after he stole items worth more than £1,200 from shops in Basingstoke.

38 year-old Dean Evans, of Charles Richards Close, Basingstoke, stole meat, confectionery and toiletries in July and August.

Basingstoke Inspector Jim Gallimore said: “We know that Dean Evans’ behaviour has had a huge impact on local businesses, staff and the wider community.

“After a shoplifting, businesses have to recover the costs which results in shops typically increasing prices, which has a huge impact on the wider public.

“We take all reports of shoplifting extremely seriously and I hope this result reassures the public that we will do all we can to put offenders before the courts.”
